A dental abscess occurs when a tooth becomes infected and can no longer be treated with simple fillings. Such a tooth will require root canal treatment or may need to be extracted.

Root canal treatment saves the tooth and restores it functionally, after which a crown is placed. Metal braces were fitted and adjusted over the course of treatment, progressively guiding each tooth into its ideal position. Once the desired alignment was achieved, a fixed bonded retainer wire was placed on the inner surface of the teeth to maintain the correction long-term — invisible from the outside and requiring no daily removal.

Dental Abscess Resolved with Root Canal Treatment

This patient presented with a dental abscess — a painful bacterial infection at the root of the tooth causing localised swelling and pus accumulation at the gum line. Without treatment, the infection spreads rapidly to surrounding bone and tissue.

Root canal treatment (RCT) was performed to remove the infected pulp tissue, clean and shape the root canals, and seal the tooth to prevent reinfection. Following RCT, the abscess drained completely and the surrounding gum tissue healed, eliminating pain and saving the natural tooth.

Severely Decayed Molar — When Extraction is the Only Option

This patient presented with a severely decayed lower molar where the cavity had extended deep into the root, making the tooth unrestorable. The extracted tooth clearly shows the extent of destruction — a large, dark cavity penetrating through the crown deep into the root structure, with the surrounding tissue showing signs of chronic infection. These cases show heavy tartar (calculus) and stain buildup — including significant deposits on the lingual (tongue-side) surfaces visible through the dental mirror. Following extraction of the non-restorable teeth and preparation of the supporting abutment teeth, a full-arch fixed ceramic bridge was fabricated and cemented.
